The Second Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the the Sackler family will be released from liability for its role in the opioid epidemic as owners of Purdue Pharma. It’s a horrific ruling that will see a family of billionaires escape with a mere slap on the wrist for their role in more than more than a half a million deaths over the past two decades. But it’s also a serious indictment of progressive politics, which has proven once again that it simply has no answer to the overwhelming power of capital.
