Twitter Files pundits wouldn't talk about capitalism, and then it censored them.

Capitalists control the megaphone - and if they think you're bad for business, they'll take it away.

Though I don’t want to waste too much more time on the Twitter Files drama, a new development has vividly vindicated a Marxist critique of this whole affair that I can’t help but point it out.

The Twitter Files, we are told, have exposed wokeness as one of the most powerful forces of censorship in the contemporary US. Elon Musk has been completely explicit about this; he routinely frames his leaks as a damning indictment of wokeness. Leftists, meanwhile, have typically rejected this line; but some have condemned it as proof of government overreach. Branko Marcetic, writing for Jacobin, insists that “the fact they’re playing this extensive a role in deciding what social media companies censor should be disturbing.”

Over the past week, however, Musk’s Twitter has been hit with a new censorship scandal. It has ironically hit multiple reporters who collaborated with Musk in the Twitter Files campaign. And it has absolutely nothing to do with wokeness or the government: everything is about capitalism, but this one is unambiguously about capitalism.
