Who is the Democratic base?
Trying to make sense of a popular but mostly meaningless term.
Over the past few days I’ve been having some fun on social media with this chart:
It’s obvious what happened here: Andrew Cuomo won a third party campaign that peeled off a significant amount of the Democratic vote. Nevertheless, if we take the usual “vote blue no matter who” logic seriously then the numbers speak for themselves. For better and for worse, democratic socialists — at least in this election — proved to be the Democrats’ most loyal constituency.
